Stunning in Ritual Slaughter

Stunning in Ritual Slaughter

The ATASMIYA association wishes to clearly affirm its firm and unequivocal position regarding Halal ritual slaughter. In accordance with its religious and ethical principles, no stunning— whether performed before or after bleeding—is accepted. This formally includes electrical stunning or electronarcosis, mechanical stunning, or any other mechanical or chemical process intended to render the animal unconscious or to alter its perception.

Halal slaughter, as upheld by ATASMIYA, is carried out manually by a qualified Muslim slaughterer, in strict compliance with religious prescriptions. The animal is slaughtered while fully conscious, through a swift incision to the throat, without any prior loss of consciousness. This method ensures full respect for the religious rite, guaranteeing that the animal is alive, conscious, and in good health at the time of bleeding—an essential condition for the validity of the sacrifice according to Islamic principles.

The ATASMIYA association calls upon all industry professionals, as well as consumers, to exercise increased vigilance regarding these practices and to demand complete transparency concerning the slaughter methods used for so-called Halal products.
